Role of the NDF
The Strategic Plan was established as part of a statutory measure based on the Nuclear Damage Compensation Facilitation Corporation Act
The current NDF (Nuclear Damage Compensation and Decommissioning Facilitation Corporation) was established on August 18, 2014 by reorganizing of the former Nuclear Damage Compensation Facilitation Corporation and is the organization responsible for technical studies to ensure decommissioning is conducted properly and steadily from a mid- and long-term perspective.
It is also expected to play a central role in technical areas, such as establishing a close alliance with the government, TEPCO and R&D institutions such as the International Research Institute for Nuclear Decommissioning (IRID) and the Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA) and share progress status and challenges for the successful advancement of R&D projects.
The NDF launched the Strategic Plan as part of its statutory obligations to "provide advices, guidance and recommendations to ensure the decommissioning of the Fukushima Daiichi NPS is conducted in an appropriate and steady manner" and to manage "R&D for technologies required for decommissioning" based on the Nuclear Damage Compensation and Decommissioning Facilitation Corporation Act.
